The fact that Garner's killer didn't get indicted is nothing short of horrifying. If a video of a cop literally strangling an unarmed and nonviolent black man whose only crime was selling cigarettes for 75 cents each still couldn't get a grand jury to agree that there's anything to look into, in New York -- how can there possibly be any justice? How could anyone in less liberal, multicultural territories get justice? How could we expect that videoing cops will create justice?
And nothing has changed.
"It is pitiable that frantic efforts must be made at critical times to get lawmakers in some States even to listen to the respectful presentation of the black man’s side of a current controversy. Daily the Negro is coming more and more to look upon law and justice, not as protecting safeguards, but as sources of humiliation and oppression." -W.E.B. DuBois, "The Souls of Black Folk," 1903
Yeah. I can kinda understand the Michael Brown thing because there are so many conflicting reports on what happened and no concrete evidence. This on the other hand there is concrete evidence, and yet the same shit happens.
It's no wonder the UN is starting to get concerned about our justice system.
